Diplomatic Difficulty

There are many game behaviors and attributes that are altered by the Diplomatic Difficulty Game Setting.

The following AI behaviors are altered by the Diplomatic level:

  1. Region Alliances
  2. Diplomatic/Trade Offer Quantity
  3. Diplomatic/Trade Offer terms favorability
  4. AI Favorable Evaluation/Approval of Player Offers and Trades
  5. Quantity of War declarations
  6. War CB* Requirement
  7. Cancellation of Alliance
  8. Conspiracy to Declare War

The following other Game Attributes are changed by the Diplomatic level:

  1. Initial adjustment to Player's UN Treaty Integrity, Approval and Subsidy
  2. Initial adjustment to AI Region's UN Treaty Integrity, Approval and Subsidy
  3. Effects of Diplomatic and Civilian Ratings (Relations/Opposition) from Normal (default)
  4. Effects of CB from Normal (default)
  5. Rate of CB decrease over time
  6. End-of-day adjustment to U.N. Approvals and Subsidies
  7. End-of-day adjustment to AI region's Diplomatic and Civilian Relations and their CB

and for game version 5.2 and later:

  1. CB penalty against player for possessing the "largest army" or military building capacity (MilCap).
  2. Automatic Player CB against AI

Note that the United Nations (UN) Approval attribute is equivalent to a region's favor by the World Market.

*Casus Belli (CB) is a region's justification for war against another region. Penalties for declaring war are inversely proportional to the declaring region's justification/CB.

Military Difficulty

  2. AI Unit Intelligence
  3. Player Defense Minster Activity
  4. Likelihood of Partisans & Guerillas
  5. Likelihood of UN Military Advisors
  6. Player's initial Military Efficiency

and for Global Crisis Only:

  1. Reduction in strength of sold Units after Player/AI exchange (Land-Air/Sea)
  2. Reduction in strength of sold Units after AI to AI exchange (Land-Air/Sea)

Approval Effects Lobby Option

The level of "Approval Effect" detemines how strongly the AI regions will react to your diplomatic actions.

  1. Effects of Diplomatic and Civilian Ratings (Relations/Opposition) from Normal (default)
  2. Effects of Casus Belli (CB) from Normal
  3. CB penalty against player for possessing the "largest army" or military building capacity (MilCap) (version 5.2 and above)
  4. Decrease of AI Provocation when successfully negociating Peace treaty
  5. Increase in AI Provocation upon declaration of war
